How long should I pause?

How long one should pause in case of pain in the elbow joint depends largely on the cause of the pain. If the pain is caused by muscle tension or a bruise, the joint is usually pain-free and fully resilient again within a few days. If, on the other hand, there is more extensive damage, such as an injury to a ligament or a fracture, immobilisation of the elbow can take several weeks. In the case of progressive joint diseases such as elbow arthrosis, it is possible that certain types of sport may have to be permanently avoided and therefore paused.

Bandage

A bandage can be a helpful solution in the treatment of pain in the elbow joint. Basically, there are two different types of bandages: Bandages consist of firm, stretchable material that is applied around the painful joint. The aim of using a bandage is to protect, relieve and stabilize the elbow joint and to protect it from overstrain.

Small gel pads incorporated into the bandage allow targeted pressure to be applied, which indirectly massages painful points. Furthermore, the compression pressure stimulates the blood circulation, which relaxes the muscles and also relieves pain. In contrast to a plaster bandage or an orthosis, the bandage allows the elbow joint a lot of freedom of movement, so that it can also be worn during sports activities.

  • One consists of elastic bands that are wrapped around the affected joint
  • The others are prefabricated bandages made of compression knit.

Ointments

For the treatment of elbow pain, various ointments are available for external application.Depending on the cause of the pain, the different products are more or less suitable. Voltaren pain gel: The gel contains the active substance Diclofenac, which works both pain and anti-inflammatory Traumeel ointment: The ointment is a homeopathic combination medicine, which is indicated with pain by blunt injuries (e.g. strains, contusions) and bruises Kytta pain ointment: The ointment contains the vegetable active substance comfrey root. It has a pain-relieving effect on acute joint injuries and chronic diseases such as arthrosis and, unlike chemical preparations, can be used over a longer period of time.
