Pheniramine is contained in combination with other active ingredients in NeoCitran powder, which has been approved in many countries since 1985.
Structure and properties
Pheniramine (C16H20N2, Mr = 240.3 g/mol) is present in drugs as pheniramine maleate, a white crystalline powder that is very soluble in water. It is a racemate and an alkylamine and pyridine derivative.
Effects
Pheniramine (ATC R06AB05) has antihistamine, antiallergic, antimuscarinic, depressant, and antisecretory properties. The antiallergic effects are due to antagonism at histamine H1 receptors. Pheniramine has a long half-life of up to 19 hours.
Indications
In combination with other agents for short-term and symptomatic treatment of flu and cold symptoms in adults. Pheniramine is not approved for the treatment of allergy in many countries.
Dosage
According to the SmPC. The medicine may be taken up to three times daily.
Contraindications

Interactions
Central depressant drugs, alcohol, and parasympatholytics may potentiate adverse effects and should not be administered concomitantly.
Adverse effects
The most common possible adverse effects include drowsiness, drowsiness, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Do not drive after taking this medicine. See also medications and driving.
