Pheochromocytoma: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma.

Family history

  • Are there any genetic diseases in your family?
  • Do any people in your family suffer from kidney or adrenal diseases?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What symptoms/complaints have you noticed?
    • Abdominal pain?
    • Flank pain?
    • Persistently elevated blood pressure or hypertension crises?
    • Pale skin?
    • Trembling?
    • Feelings of anxiety?
    • Inner restlessness?
    • Headache
    • Palpitations
  • How long have these symptoms been present?
  • Do you suffer from weight loss?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Are you underweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
  • Do you smoke? If yes, how many cigarettes, cigars or pipes per day? If you are now a non-smoker: When did you quit smoking and how many years did you smoke?
  • Do you drink alcohol? If so, what drink(s) and how many glasses of it per day?
  • Do you use drugs? If yes, what drugs and how often per day or per week?
