Physiotherapy/exercises

The exercises performed in physiotherapy after a shoulder prosthesis include stretching, mobilization, strengthening and coordination exercises. More or less complex exercises are used depending on the progress of rehabilitation. Some examples are described below.

1.) Relaxation and mobilizationStand up straight and upright. The arms hang down loosely.

Now slowly and in a controlled manner pull your shoulders towards your ears and then lower them again. 10 repetitions. 2.)

Mobilization and mobilityStand up straight and relaxed. Then bend your upper body slightly forward and let the arm of the operated shoulder swing slowly in front of your body to the left and right. Perform the exercise for about 30 seconds.

3.) Stand behind a chair and grasp the back of the chair with both hands. Now imagine that you want to pull the back of the chair wide and build up a pull outwards with your hands.

Hold the tension for about 10 seconds and take a short break. Now do the exact opposite and push inwards. Hold this position for 10 seconds as well.

Make a total of 5 passes per side. 4.) Strengthening and stretching the musclesStand up straight and upright.

In this position, interlock your hands at chest level and then pull them outwards so that you feel a tension in your shoulders. Be careful not to pull your shoulders up during the exercise. Hold the tension for about 20 seconds.

After short breaks, make 2 more passes. 5. )Strengthening of muscles and stabilityPosition yourself in front of a wall with outstretched arms so that your palms rest on the wall.

Now perform a push-up against the wall by bending your elbows and bringing your nose closer to the wall. Your spine and head form a straight line. 10 repetitions. In advanced stages you can increase the distance to the wall. More exercises can be found in the articles:
