Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy for multiple sclerosis depends on the symptoms of the patient. Equally important in the treatment of multiple sclerosis is talk therapy, which affects the physiotherapist as much as a psychotherapist. The patient should be able to talk about his or her symptoms and anxiety and express his or her worries so that the path to depression is avoided.

The more activity the patient has, the more insidious is the course of the illness. If you are interested in this topic, read more here:

  • If there is hypertension or even spasticity in the muscle, the focus of the therapy is on detonation. In return, the patient can reduce the spasm by mobilization or stretching.

Mobilization of the pelvis in a lateral or supine position with the help of the legs improves the mobility in the pelvic area and thus the legs continue to move. Lateral stretching of the muscles in the legs with simultaneous mobilization of the entire leg reduces the tonus. Exercises from PNF for strengthening and fascilitation of movement are very useful in multiple sclerosis.

Starting with the pelvic or shoulder patterns, in which the patient learns the entire range of movement of the pelvis and shoulder blade, which is important for proper and final movement execution. By performing the entire PNF pattern with the patient, muscle strength can be improved.

  • If the patient is already paralyzed, work is done by stimulating the affected muscle. Tapping, stroking and cold therapy are often used.

In addition, a stimulation current can be applied to the muscle, which stimulates the muscle directly. A foot lifter splint helps the patient to walk and protects against falls. If there are coordination and balance problems, these can be improved by the above mentioned exercises. Since the disease is very diverse, one treatment is rarely the same as the other. Often patients come with different or acute complaints, which can then be treated accordingly.
