Potassium iodide ointment is not commercially available as a finished drug product. It can be prepared in a pharmacy. It is an older drug that is rarely used today. Urea ointment 40% is more common.

Potassium iodide ointment has keratolytic properties.

Indications for use

To dissolve the nail in nail fungus and other nail diseases.

Dosage

According to the doctor’s instructions. The ointment applied thickly and used under occlusion. The surrounding skin should be protected, for example, with a zinc ointment. After dissolving, the nail should be further treated with a nail fungicide.
