Premature birth (23. -37. SSW)

Back pain, pain in the lower abdomen and pelvis, diarrhea as well as pain in labor indicate premature birth from the 23rd week of pregnancy.

Hip Pain

During pregnancy, the pelvis is exposed to great stress, in some cases the symphysis is loosened, which can lead to severe hip pain. The pubic symphysis is a cartilaginous joint at the front of the pelvis. During pregnancy the body produces the hormone relaxin, which makes the ligaments and in the pelvis softer and more flexible.

Hip pain is probably caused by the fact that the loose ligaments now allow one side of the pelvis more room to move when walking or moving the legs than the other. The pain usually occurs in the pubic area and in the groin area. Hip pain during pregnancy often increases with certain movements such as climbing stairs or turning around in bed.

They can also become more severe at night. In rare cases, diastasis of the symphysis may occur, in which case the pubic symphysis is loosened to such an extent that an unusually wide gap is created between the pelvic bones. The hip pain caused by symphysis diastasis can be relieved by an orthopedic pelvic support belt. But other therapy options such as acupuncture, osteopathy or chiropractic can also help.

Regular pelvic floor exercises can reduce the stress on the pelvis during pregnancy. During pregnancy, hip and buttock pain can occur in the course of a piriformis syndrome. The growing child presses on certain structures in the pelvis, which causes a nerve to be compressed. In most cases, the hip pain subsides quickly after birth, only rarely the pain persists for up to a year.

Headaches during pregnancy

Headaches can occur more frequently during pregnancy. Especially in the first months of pregnancy some women complain of headaches. The causes of headaches can be many and varied, but are usually not dangerous. Since serious causes can rarely be the cause, a doctor should be consulted if the headache lasts for a long time or worsens significantly.
