The active ingredient of the drug Tavor® is called lorazepam. The drug belongs to the group of so-called benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines exert their effect in the brain and also in the peripheral nervous system by amplifying the messenger substance gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).

Benzodiazepine drugs have different profiles of action depending on the substance. Rough classifications can be made according to the duration of the onset of action or the duration of the effect. Because of these properties they can be used in many different areas.

They are used in the context of anxiety and excitement, as well as a sedative and sleeping aid. Additional uses of benzodiazepines include emergency treatment of epileptic seizures and pre-surgery care. Benzodiazepines have a marked addictive potential.

General Information/Dosage Form/Dosage

Tavor® is available in pharmacies in the form of tablets. The tablets can contain different dosages. Since Tavor® is available only on prescription, you can only get it at the pharmacy with a doctor’s prescription.

Both the duration of use and the dosage must be individually adapted to the patient. They vary according to the severity of the disease, the indication, but also the body’s reaction to taking the drug. However, it is important to keep the dosage as low as possible and the duration as short as possible for each application of Tavor®.

For the treatment of anxiety and excitement states and associated sleep disorders, the daily dose is usually 0.5-2.5 milligrams of lorazepam. This amount is taken either in a single dose in the evening or in 2-3 single doses spread over the day. For sleep disorders, the single dose is taken about 30 minutes before bedtime.

The tablets should be taken with some liquid, unchewed and not with a meal. The treatment should never be suddenly stopped and terminated, as this may temporarily increase the symptoms of anxiety and agitation. This phenomenon is also known as the so-called rebound phenomenon.
