Prophylaxis
The patient has influence on many things before a hip prosthesis causes pain, and on many things less. The stress on the joint should be minimized, no excessive movements such as extreme bending or rotating of the leg should be performed. The patient is dependent on losing any excess weight and refraining from smoking.
All this can significantly extend the complication-free life of a hip prosthesis. Likewise, muscle training as part of a guided physiotherapy session increases the stability of the joint. Prophylaxis against allergic reactions or an abnormal bone reaction after surgery is difficult, only asking about known allergies can be helpful in choosing the material.
An infection must be avoided by sterile work and antibiotic prophylaxis already initiated during the operation, which is in the hands of the attending physicians. Despite all these measures, a hip prosthesis can cause pain sooner or later. In this case, medical advice should be sought as soon as possible in order to intervene early and thus prevent serious further complications.
