Prophylaxis
A varied and well-structured training plan can prevent unnecessary overloading of the patella tendon. It would be ideal to switch between different sports such as running, swimming, cycling and strength exercises to avoid one-sided strain. Extensive stretching before running is also a good measure to prevent irritation. In particular, the hip, thigh and calf muscles should be stretched well before exercise.
Prognosis
The prognosis of patellar tendon inflammation depends on the stage. Most cases are mild to moderate inflammation (see stage I and II above), which has a good prognosis and no permanent damage. Only severe inflammation can lead to permanent, untreatable damage. It is therefore important to recognize the disease early on and to take a break from training if necessary.
