Prophylaxis | Metatarsalgia

Prophylaxis

In order to prevent metatarsalgia, it is advisable to wear suitable footwear. This means that the shoe should have a sole that is as good and resilient as possible. For regular sports, insoles should be used that optimally adapt to the shape of the foot. For women it is especially important to avoid or minimize the wearing of high heels or sandals without sole profile as much as possible.

Prognosis

The prognosis for metatarsalgia is usually very good. Metatarsalgia is often indicated by incorrect footwear and the resulting incorrect loading of the foot and can therefore be easily eliminated by changing the shoes. However, if the metatarsalgia is more advanced and thus surgery is necessary, problems are more frequent and pain may even reoccur due to the change in the foot caused by the surgery. In this case the prognosis is still good, but not as good as when only conservative therapy is needed.
