Prospects
The more that is known about the mode of action of the shock wave, the more it can be expected that the field of application of the shock wave will expand. Its use in the treatment of osteochondrosis dissecans or heterotopic ossifications (e.g. muscle calcification after hip prosthesis surgery) is currently being investigated. Shock wave therapy will continue to have a firm and justified place in conservative orthopedics.
