Protein in Urine (Isolated Proteinuria): Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of isolated proteinuria.

Family history

  • What is the general health of your family members?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?
  • Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Are you exposed to harmful working substances in your profession?

Current medical history/systemic medical history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What symptoms have you noticed?
  • How long have these changes been present?
  • Have you noticed any water retention?
    • Swollen eyelids?
    • Fluid accumulation in the subcutaneous tissue in front of the shin?
  • Hearing loss or visual impairment?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Have stools and/or urination changed in frequency, color, odor, admixtures, etc.?
  • Do you do any intense daily exercise (intense jogging or intense marches)?

Self anamnesis incl. medication anamnesis

  • Pre-existing conditions (diabetes mellitus, kidney disease).
