Medicinal drug
Rhei radix – Rhubarb root: Rhubarb root consists of the dried, whole or cut parts of L., Baillon, of hybrids of the two species, or of a mixture. The underground parts are often divided. The drug is stripped of the stem and largely of the outer bark with the lateral roots (PhEur). PhEur requires a minimum content of hydroxyanthracene derivatives.

Dosage
Effect after 8-10 hours
Contraindications
Pregnancy, Intestinal obstruction, Inflammatory bowel disease, Children < 12 years of age.
Interactions
With chronic use potassium loss: enhanced effect of cardiac glycosides, antiarrhythmics. Enhancement of hypokalemia by diuretics and other drugs that affect potassium excretion.
Adverse effects.
Electrolyte loss, constipation, discoloration of urine, pigment deposits in the colon, crampy gastrointestinal symptoms
