Experiments have demonstrated a number of effects of rosemary leaves. According to them, the drug has an antispasmodic effect on the bile ducts and small intestine, a general anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect, and increases blood flow to the coronary arteries and the strength of the heart muscle.
Experimentally, the drug also shows antiviral activity against the herpes viruses HSV-1 and -2. When used externally, rosemary has skin-irritating and blood circulation-enhancing effects.
Rosemary: possible side effects
If normal doses are observed, side effects are not expected with the use of rosemary leaves. The only risk of gastroenteritis (“stomach flu“) and nephritis (inflammatory kidney disease) is when larger amounts of rosemary oil are ingested.
Currently, there are no known interactions with other remedies.
