Schönlein-Henoch Purpura: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of Schönlein-Henoch purpura.

Family history

  • What is the general health status of the relatives?
  • Are there any diseases in your family that are common?
  • Are there any hereditary diseases in your family?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Have you noticed any skin changes in your child?
    • Pinhead-sized hemorrhages (skin or mucous membranes)? preferred region: extensor side of legs and buttocks.
  • Are joints inflamed? preferred joints: knee and ankle joint.
  • Does your child have discomfort in the gastrointestinal tract?
    • Vomiting?
    • Colicky abdominal pain?
    • Blood in the stool?
  • Have you noticed blood in your child’s urine?
  • Does it feel floppy, sick?
  • Does your child have a fever? If so, for how long? What is the temperature?
  • Has he or she had an infection recently?

Self history including medication history.
