Sebaceous glands on the glans
Especially young men often have increased sebaceous glands in the genital area. Many ask themselves whether this is normal or whether removal may be necessary. Sebaceous glands in the genital area, also on the glans, are something natural.
Even visible sebaceous glands, in the form of small yellowish spots, are no cause for concern and do not need to be removed. Only inflamed, painful glands or sebaceous cysts can rarely be a reason for removal.Enlarged or blocked sebaceous glands may also be present on the scrotum. They are often a cosmetic problem, especially for young men, and therefore the desire for removal is not uncommon.
A urologist can open up the small cysts and scrape out or remove them. If you suffer from many enlarged or blocked sebaceous glands in this area, removal is often felt to be a great relief. However, it is not medically necessary, as the sebaceous glands do not impair sexual function.
Prognosis
Most sebaceous glands can be removed without any problems. Especially smaller sebaceous gland cysts, blockages or inflammations are usually easy to remove. Ectopic sebaceous glands, on the other hand, can recur even after removal. These are sebaceous glands that occur in unusual places, such as the upper lip, oral mucosa or the genital region.
