Shift your period without the pill

Introduction

Every now and then in their lives many women feel the desire to postpone their periods for a few days. This can have various reasons, such as certain events, sports or the like. Also an irregular cycle, intermittent bleeding or very long periods can lead to the desire to interfere with the period.

So how is it possible to postpone your period? A well-known method of postponing your period is to take the pill. By taking the pill continuously or by shortening the break in your periods, you can postpone the day of the week or even the whole bleeding for a month. However, many women do not take the pill for various reasons. So how is it possible to postpone your period without the pill and is it even possible?

What is the best way to do this?

Moving the period is not always recommended. Therefore, women who wish to postpone their periods are strongly advised to consult a gynaecologist in advance. An individual consultation is absolutely necessary, because ultimately postponing your period always interferes with your hormonal cycle.

In justified cases, this can be sensible and harmless, but a natural rhythm should always be maintained. How is it possible to postpone your period without the pill? There are basically two possibilities.

The first possibility is to influence the cycle with the help of the so-called contraceptive ring. The contraceptive ring, like the pill, releases hormones that prevent pregnancy. The ring is inserted vaginally for three weeks and then removed.

This is followed by a seven-day ring break, during which the abortion bleeding occurs, similar to the pill. To postpone the bleeding, the interval can be shortened. Thus, the day on which the withdrawal bleeding begins changes at the next break.

It is also possible to insert the next ring directly, without taking a break, so that the withdrawal bleeding is completely eliminated for two months. However, this should be discussed in advance with a gynecologist to avoid application errors. Under no circumstances should the interval between the removal and reinsertion of a ring be longer than seven days, as no contraception protection can be guaranteed.

Another way to postpone the period is to take progestin preparations. In Germany the preparation Norethisterone is the most common. This preparation is used in the treatment of menopausal symptoms, menstrual and hormonal disorders.

It is only available on prescription and there must be an indication for taking it. This means that Norethisterone is not simply prescribed by doctors to postpone the period at will. However, if menstrual disorders are present, such as very painful menstrual periods, the use of norethisterone may be justified.

The preparation should not be taken for more than two weeks. Your period will start about three days after you stop taking norethisterone. However, if you postpone your period with norethisterone, you may experience spotting and spotting bleeding as an adverse effect.
