Should an orthosis also be worn at night?
Whether an orthosis must also be worn at night depends on the indication. Anyone who wears an orthosis to correct malpositions in the lower leg, ankle or foot usually needs the lower leg orthosis at night as well. This is the only way to achieve a continuous improvement of the malposition. Persons with weak muscles who need the orthosis to support walking can usually do without the orthosis at night. In most cases, the force is sufficient to move the lower legs and feet even without the orthosis, but when walking over longer distances, support in the form of an orthosis is required.
Is it possible to drive a car with an orthosis?
In principle, driving a car with an orthosis is not prohibited. However, it depends on how severely the person affected is restricted. For example, a person who wears an orthosis on the left lower leg only can easily drive an automatic car where only the healthy right leg is needed for braking and accelerating.
If both legs or the right leg are affected, it depends on the functionality of the leg. If the orthosis is only needed for stabilization and sufficient force is applied to the brakes, especially for pedaling, then driving a car is safe. Those who find it difficult to control their legs reliably even with orthoses should refrain from driving a car independently for their own safety.
