Sorbitol Intolerance: Diagnostic Tests

Mandatory medical device diagnostics.

  • Sorbitol H2 breath test – On the day of testing, a baseline value is first obtained from exhaled air. Then the patient ingests 5 g of sorbitol in either 100 ml of water or unsweetened peppermint tea. Subsequently, the hydrogen concentration is measured again at 20-minute intervals for approximately three hours and recorded. Any complaints related to sorbitol intake are also recorded. The total duration of the examination is 3-4 hours.

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

* Notes for performing the examination!Do not eat high-carbohydrate meals the day before the examination and prefer meals that are fiber-free. No eating or smoking should be done from 17:00 on the day before, and no drinks from 22:00!
