In general, it is recommended to pay attention to the following things in case of fatty liver:

  • 1. existing overweight should be reduced
  • 2. change of diet: The daily calorie intake should be adjusted to the needs.

    Prefer whole grain products and lean meat and dairy products. Avoid sweetened drinks and sugary snacks. A low-salt diet is recommended.

    Instead of using animal fats, it is recommended to prefer polyunsaturated fats such as olive oil. Vegetables and fruit should also be on your menu.

  • 3. no alcohol! Alcohol is harmful to the liver anyway and should therefore not be consumed if you have a fatty liver.
  • 4. regular exercise and sports: regular exercise and sports also have positive effects and should be integrated into the daily schedule.

Further therapeutic measures for fatty liver

There are currently no drugs approved for the treatment of fatty liver. In addition to lifestyle changes, which include, for example, a healthy diet and regular exercise, drug interventions are aimed in particular at concomitant diseases, which often occur in connection with fatty liver and the associated overweight. These include diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure or cirrhosis of the liver. If you are very overweight, which cannot be reduced by a change in diet and exercise alone, a weight-reducing surgical procedure can be considered.
