Symptoms of a pus pimple on the lip

Before a pimple develops, there are sometimes signs that can indicate this. For example, the spot may hurt even before the pimple becomes visible. Furthermore a preceding reddening is possible.

Sometimes, however, the affected person does not even notice the development of the pimple, but sees with the next look in the mirror that a pus pimple has formed. Depending on the size of the pimple and the degree of inflammation, it can cause more or less pain. The size and swelling of the pimple can also affect the opening of the mouth.

Especially on the lip, the pimple can cause pain when eating, drinking or speaking, making everyday life more difficult for a short time. The area around the pimple is also often sensitive to touch. In fact, it is also possible that the pus pimple – apart from looking unaesthetic – does not cause any other problems.

The pain can be of varying intensity or even be completely absent. However, since many nerve fibres are drawn to the lips, this area is often very sensitive to pain. Often the site of the pus pimple is touch-sensitive and the person affected feels pain if he or she touches the area by mistake.

If the pus pimple is very inflamed, it can cause pain even if the lips are not moved or touched. The pain may also have a pulsating quality. The swelling of the lip is caused by the pimple, even if it is not directly on the lip.

A pus pimple causes inflammation, which can also spread to the surrounding area. Inflamed skin also turns red. Therefore, it may appear as if the lip is directly swollen, although actually only the skin around the pimple is inflamed red.

What can you do about it?

The pus pimple – as unattractive as it may be – should not be expressed. The method of choice should be to disinfect and dry out the pimple on the lip. This can be achieved by various means:

  • On the one hand, tea tree oil can be applied to the pimple several times a day.

Tea tree oil disinfects and dries the pus pimple.

  • On the other hand, chamomile tea can be dabbed on the pimples, because chamomile also has a disinfecting, antibacterial effect.
  • Furthermore, a paste mixture of water and healing earth can be prepared, which is left on the pus pick for half an hour or even overnight.
  • Normal disinfectants from the pharmacy can also be applied to the pimple. However, care should be taken to ensure that it is a disinfectant that may also be swallowed accidentally.
  • If there is a severe swelling, the lip can be cooled. Cooling reduces the swelling and can also reduce pain.
  • For severe pain, short-term use of painkillers such as ibuprofen can also be considered. If the pus pimple has risen by itself, the area should be disinfected and kept clean.
