Therapy recommendations

  • Dysgeusia is difficult to treat. It is important to determine the etiology (cause).
  • Alpha lipoic acid (LA) – for dysgeusia caused by a neuropathy (diseases of the peripheral nervous system).
  • Zinc – for dysgeusia caused by neuropathy (e.g., 140 mg of zinc gluconate per day, equivalent to 20 mg of elemental zinc per day, for 4 months)
  • Lidocaine irrigation solution can be used only in exceptional cases.
