1st order laboratory parameters – obligatory laboratory tests.
- Small blood count
- Electrolytes – calcium* , magnesium, sodium, potassium.
- Parathyroid hormone
- Vitamin D
- Renal parameters – urea, creatinine, cystatin C or creatinine clearance if necessary.
- Urine status (rapid test for: pH, leukocytes, nitrite, protein, blood), if necessary sediment, if necessary urine culture (pathogen detection and resistogram, that is, testing suitable antibiotics for sensitivity / resistance).
* Rare hypocalcemia (calcium deficiency) with blood Ca < 2.25 mmol/l = < 9 mg/dl = < 4.5 mval/l, mostly normocalcemic forms of tetany are present.
2nd order laboratory parameters – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification
- Acid-base status
- Toxicological examinations – in case of suspected intoxications.
