The costs

The cost of the examination may vary. They depend on the form of the examination – i.e. whether it is performed under general or local anaesthesia. However, since there is a medical indication, the costs are covered by the health insurance company.

What are the alternatives?

There is no real alternative to a biopsy. Only the histological, i.e. the fine-tissue examination provides information about the type of cells and the extent to which they have multiplied. This is particularly important in order to recognise whether the tumour is benign or malignant.

The therapy also varies, depending on how far the tumour has progressed. Imaging, such as a CT or sonography of the abdomen, can be performed as a complementary measure. They can only show whether there are any suspicious changes and how large they are.

Unfortunately, they do not provide any information about the type of cells that are multiplying. .
