About two million people in Germany have a heart disease and thus an increased risk of a medical incident. In such an emergency, anyone who can tell the doctor exactly what medication is being taken and what concomitant diseases are present without wasting time significantly increases their chances of survival. The German Heart Foundation therefore recommends that all heart patients keep a good emergency card in their wallet.

However, not every type of emergency ID card is equally appropriate. “Booklets that contain, for example, only the entry “Attention heart disease” are in no, case sufficient, emphasizes the chairman of the German Heart Foundation Professor Dr. med. However, since there is usually a great deal of confusion in such situations or the affected person is no longer able to express themselves due to unconsciousness, the doctor often cannot get hold of all the important information quickly enough. The emergency card of the German Heart Foundation, which has just been revised and has already found more than one million buyers in the past 20 years, therefore offers a lot of space for medical background information. For example, there are fields not only for allergies, blood group affiliation and drug intolerances, but also for diabetes mellitus or kidney dysfunction, which are frequently observed in heart patients and play a significant role in emergency therapy.
