Therapy | Pain in the ball of the foot

Therapy

The treatment depends on the cause of the pain in the ball of the foot and includes conservative, medicinal or surgical measures. Pain that occurs after overloading or overstraining the ball of the foot often disappears by itself and can be alleviated by immobilising the foot. Furthermore, the application of cold or heat for the treatment of pain in the ball of the foot can also be considered.

If the pain in the ball of the foot is caused by inflammation, anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving medication such as Diclofenac can be used in the form of tablets or ointments. If a bone tumor is responsible for the pain in the ball of the foot, surgical removal of the tumor is often the method of choice. Malpositions of the foot can also be corrected during surgery.

Prognosis

The prognosis depends on the cause of the pain in the ball of the foot. Pain in the ball of the foot, which is caused by incorrect loading or overloading of the soccer, often disappears of its own accord after a short time.

Prophylaxis

The best way to prevent pain in the ball of the foot is to avoid overstraining the soccer. If you plan to put a lot of strain on the ball of your foot, e.g. a hike, you can prevent pain in the ball of your foot by wearing suitable footwear.
