Therapy

Depending on the type and spread of the skin fungal disease, the treatment must be adapted. For local, superficial infections, ointments and creams are used in most cases, which not only kill the fungal pathogens, but also care for the damaged skin and support the healing process. These ointments contain special active ingredients, such as bifonazole, clotrimazole, terbinafine or ketoconazole, which kill the fungi, eliminate them and prevent further growth and spread.

These ointments can be applied locally two to three times a day. When applying the ointment and to care for damaged skin, a separate towel should always be used to prevent the spread of the pathogens. The spectrum of effects of ointments is very diverse.

They alleviate the very unpleasant itching, inhibit the growth and spread of the pathogens and fight the local infection of the affected skin sections. The ointments should also be used for another 3 to 4 weeks after the symptoms have subsided to prevent chronic infection with the skin fungus. Canesten® is a cream that is used in the area of fungal skin diseases.

These skin diseases caused by filamentous fungi (dermatophytes), yeasts or molds often manifest themselves on the skin of the feet, hands, nails, genitals or even the face. The cream contains an active ingredient called clotrimazole, which penetrates into the deep layers of skin affected by the fungus and attacks the structures of the fungus. The ointment prevents the cell walls of the fungus from rebuilding, which causes the pathogens to lose their protection and stability.

Consequently, the fungus dies and is prevented from growing and multiplying. Clotrimazol is an antifungal agent that can cover a very broad spectrum of pathogens and is therefore used in the treatment of many different fungal diseases. The cream should be applied thinly to the affected area up to three times a day.

Before doing so, the skin should be washed thoroughly to remove any superfluous scales. Before applying the cream, the affected skin area should dry well so that the cream can be absorbed quickly. The use of a Canesten cream is usually accompanied by few side effects. Slight irritative skin reactions such as redness, swelling or a burning sensation may occur. Slight hypersensitivity reactions may also occur. If the cream is not tolerated, or if the application does not produce a sufficient effect, it is advisable to consult a doctor and have another medication prescribed.
