Hand Mushroom

Hand fungus is a local disease of the skin that only affects the hands. Like athlete’s foot, the disease is caused by an infection with filamentous fungi, so-called dermatophytes, which prefer to settle in the palm of the hand and the spaces between the fingers and continue to multiply there. The transmission of the fungal components takes place via smear or contact infections and is often accompanied by a previously existing foot or nail fungus.

In order to counteract the itching of a foot fungus and to obtain relief, the affected area is scratched. If you do not clean your hands sufficiently afterwards, the fungal components that settle on the hands can infect damaged areas of the hand and spread further. A simple polite handshake is sufficient to transfer the infectious fungal components to another person.

In most cases, a fungal disease starts very slowly and insidiously in the hand. Especially in the spaces between the fingers one begins to sweat easily and there a lot of heat is generated by friction. These conditions offer the fungi an optimal environment to settle and multiply.

In the beginning the skin starts to itch and is reddened. In the course of time skin scales loosen and small cracks can form, which can be accompanied by a feeling of tension and pain and lead to limited hand mobility. Small cracks in the skin provide an entry point for other bacteria and germs, which can cause additional infections and inflammation.

In some forms of hand fungus, fluid-filled vesicles form that settle in the entire palm of the hand and in the area of the fingertips and release an infectious secretion when they burst. In order to effectively treat hand fungal disease, ointments should be used that attack and kill the infectious fungal components, as well as care for and repair the damaged skin in the area of the hands. Also the strong itching is relieved by the used substances.

After the fungal disease has healed, the treatment should be continued for another 3 to 4 weeks to prevent a new infection. To reduce the risk of hand fungal disease, it is necessary to pay attention to thorough hand hygiene and to take sufficient care of the skin. In order not to irritate and strain the skin too much and thus prevent possible entry ports for further pathogens, it is recommended to use mild and pH neutral soaps. By using skin care creams, the skin is sufficiently moisturized and in addition they unfold an oily component. This helps to regenerate and care for the damaged skin.
