Vomiting during Pregnancy (Hyperemesis Gravidarum): Test and Diagnosis

Laboratory parameters of the 1st order – obligatory laboratory tests.

Laboratory parameters 2nd order – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and mandatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Blood gas analysis (ABG; metabolic ketoacidosis, ketonemia: acetoacetic acid, acetone, beta-oxybutyric acid (acetone odor of breath)).
  • Helicobacter pylori clarification (13C-urea breath test, urease rapid test, Helicobacter pylori antigen in stool, Helicobacter pylori direct detection at gastroscopy / gastroscopy (histology and culture), Helicobacter pylori antibodies in serum).
  • Total porphyrins in urine – if porphyria or acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) is suspected.
