Laboratory parameters of the 1st order – obligatory laboratory tests.
- Small blood count (hematocrit).
- Urine status (rapid test for: pH, leukocytes, nitrite, protein, glucose, ketone, urobilinogen, bilirubin, blood), sediment, if necessary urine culture (pathogen detection and resistogram, that is, testing of suitable antibiotics for sensitivity/resistance) [ketone bodies (+), specific gravity, aciduria].
- Electrolytes – chloride, sodium, potassium.
- Thyroid parameters – TSH
- Liver parameters – alanine aminotransferase(ALT, GPT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST, GOT), glutamate dehydrogenase (GLDH) and gamma-glutamyl transferase (gamma-GT, GGT), alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin.
Laboratory parameters 2nd order – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and mandatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.
- Blood gas analysis (ABG; metabolic ketoacidosis, ketonemia: acetoacetic acid, acetone, beta-oxybutyric acid (acetone odor of breath)).
- Helicobacter pylori clarification (13C-urea breath test, urease rapid test, Helicobacter pylori antigen in stool, Helicobacter pylori direct detection at gastroscopy / gastroscopy (histology and culture), Helicobacter pylori antibodies in serum).
- Total porphyrins in urine – if porphyria or acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) is suspected.
