Warnings
Some of the preparations (Fenistil®), especially those for internal use, can slightly impair the ability to react. For this reason, active participation in road traffic and the operation of machines after ingestion should be avoided.
Contraindication
In general, Fenistil® should not be used during pregnancy or lactation. Although there is no concrete evidence yet of any harmful effect on the (unborn) child, it is better to be cautious due to lack of experience. Patients suffering from bladder voiding disorders or narrow-angle glaucoma should also refrain from using Fenistil®. In addition, there are special contraindications for some preparations, often age-related, which have already been mentioned at the appropriate place.
Side effects
As with all drugs, the occurrence of side effects is difficult to predict, as each person reacts differently to the medication. After the application of Fenistil®, dry mouth, tiredness or nausea occasionally occur, rarely also headaches, restlessness or gastrointestinal complaints. If an allergic reaction occurs, a doctor must be consulted immediately.
Interactions
The side effects of Fenistil®, such as fatigue, can be aggravated by the parallel intake of medications with similar effects. These include sedatives, sleeping pills or antidepressants. In addition, alcohol also increases the side effects. When tricyclic antidepressants are taken at the same time, patients with a tendency to develop glaucoma have an increased risk of a seizure.
