Many travelers and vacationers think they can go anywhere to have or report as much vacation as possible. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, as medical experience teaches. Because of the importance of the fact that medical advice is rarely sought in our experience, we are privileged to make more detailed comments about it.

Which vacations and vacation spots are suitable?

Exercise is valuable in cardiac congestion, leading to improvement of blood supply through vascularization and relief of congested coronary arteries by walking in the open air in mountainous areas. Above all, one should not go on vacation with a broken set of teeth or dentures. Even Goethe had to extend his stay at a spa in Carlsbad because he got a fat cheek. So, in order not to lose the vacation days due to dental treatment, which is also possible only with difficulties in remote places, and to question the rest at all due to the associated restlessness, it is always advisable to have the teeth fixed by the dentist beforehand.

Climate and weather in the mountains

The stimulating climate of the higher altitudes in the mountains is generally less suitable for people over 70 years of age because of the lack of reserves of strength and the reduced adaptability of the organs, but also heart patients, asthmatics and people with walking difficulties should leave mountaineering to more able-bodied people. The frequent changes in temperature, the evening and night cooling, the appearance of weather fronts (Föhn) and sudden cloudbursts and thunderstorms can lead to aggravations in emphysema sufferers after drenching or to heart attacks in coronary circulatory disorders. In June, for example, one could experience a snowfall in the Alps that allowed skiing. In the high mountains, but also in the low mountains, the daytime temperature at about 800 meters is on average +15 degrees, in the evenings +5 – +10 and on the mountains not rarely around 1 degree Celsius. If it even comes to dry air changes these vacation areas are unsuitable for asthma and bronchial sufferers. In this context, it should be noted that heart patients who also suffer from asthma are often not referred to such health resorts because the climate is unsuitable for asthmatics. The same applies to all mud and sulfur baths, and Kneipp spas. Asthma sufferers will therefore expediently rather go to the Baltic Sea or the North Sea. However, they should also avoid cold food and drinks and smoking there.

Climate and weather at the Baltic Sea and North Sea

Ozone levels at the Baltic Sea and North Sea are largely equivalent to the summits of the high mountains. Since salinity depends on the strength of the surf and wind, stays on Sylt, Fehmarn, Stankt Peter Ording, Hiddensee, Rügen, Usedom, and Fischland-Darß-Zingst should be optimal. Open-air rest cures have a beneficial effect on the circulation by easing the work of the heart, especially when the temperature is cool. However, in the stimulating climate at the sea, relapses of tumor diseases can occur, which have been observed even 7 years after the operation. These phenomena have also been observed in brine baths, in addition to the flare-up of overlooked dental foci. Goitre sufferers can also not be recommended a Baltic or North Sea vacation, because under the influence of the iodine content of the sea air and the iodine richness of the seafood eaten, Graves’ glaucoma can develop. On the other hand, the iodine content is beneficial for arteriosclerosis and replaces medical treatment for arteriosclerosis patients. It is not advisable for bile patients to stay there because of the possible sudden cooling at the sea. It is well known that chronic middle ear patients with eardrum loss should not swim in moving seas. Greased cotton plugs in the ear canal do not guarantee the necessary safety in case of strong waves or diving. Those who suffer from chronic eczema, psoriasis or allergic skin diseases should spend their annual vacation at the North Sea or Baltic Sea, because only regular repetition can bring healing and improvement, especially since an annual cure on the part of the health insurance companies is not possible due to the wide spread of this disease. For those who are poor in blood, the stay at the sea is particularly successful.

Hiking in the mountains

Exercise is valuable for cardiac congestion, and hiking in the great outdoors in mountainous terrain leads to improvement in blood supply through vascularization and relief of congested coronary arteries. The exercise distances are to be increased from 2 to 20 km daily. Also chronic joint diseases are improved by a climatic cure in the low mountain range, because a better blood circulation of the joints is achieved. The newly won efficiency brings then also self-confidence and quality of life back. The low mountain range climate, as in the Harz Mountains, the Fichtel Mountains, the Ore Mountains and the Bavarian Forest, begins at an altitude of about 400 m, but it should be noted that characteristic features of the high mountain range climate can already be found at an altitude of 700 to 800 m, which are characterized by greater air rarefaction, considerable temperature fluctuations, solar and (ultraviolet) ozone radiation and ozone levels evenly distributed throughout the year. Therefore, the strong stimulating climate is often not well tolerated by people with thyroid swelling. People with emphysema suffer from a constant lack of oxygen. Many a motorist has noticed that his engine runs better in the forest. Thus, emphysema sufferers soon find relief in wooded areas, especially in fir forests of the low mountain range. Body and soul are refreshed at the same time. An important factor for recovery, however, is the tranquility of the vacation resort or climatic health resort. With it it is particularly badly ordered in the overcrowded beach places and seaside resorts. Those who are nervous, exhausted and looking for complete relaxation would do well to travel to the low mountain ranges, where they can recharge their batteries in the silence of unspoiled nature, detached from their everyday surroundings. We do not want to conclude this reflection without the advice to all vacationers to enjoy the beautiful vacations in peace, because the noise and the hustle and bustle of the job and everyday life come back anyway faster than one or the other would like.
