What are the costs? | Crown for an incisor

What are the costs?

A dental crown is a custom-made restoration for the prepared tooth stump. Since it is made individually, the costs are accordingly high. After the diagnosis, a treatment and cost plan is prepared, which the dentist sends to the responsible health insurance company.

Sometimes it has to be delivered there by the dentist himself. In most cases, the health insurance company pays for the standard care. If the bonus booklet is kept properly, the costs can be reduced by another 10% or 15%.

The simplest and cheapest option is a non-precious metal crown with a plastic veneer in the visible area. Depending on the dentist, the own contribution starts at about 250€. However, if the crown is to be made of a higher quality material, such as gold or all-ceramic, the prices will skyrocket.

The own contribution can then exceed 1000€. Apart from the material, the dentist and his expertise also play a certain role. Sometimes there are special prices in university hospitals. There you will be treated by students, who usually do the work properly.

What to do if the incisor crown becomes loose?

A bite on a hard food or trauma can cause the still firm incisor crown to suddenly wobble. This often interferes with eating or speaking, which is very unpleasant for those affected, especially in the anterior region. In this case, there is always the fear that the crown could fall out.

Public life can be severely affected. Usually a slight loosening becomes more and more pronounced in the course of the weeks. Then the family dentist should be consulted so that this problem can be corrected.

Typically, a loose crown is gently removed with pliers without causing any damage. After cement residues have been removed from the artificial crown and stump, a decision is made about the further procedure. Sometimes the dentist can simply glue it back in place so that it is fixed.

In other cases, further treatment of the tooth must be carried out beforehand. However, there is nothing that can be done about the loosening itself. There are no home remedies to reattach a loose crown.
