Releasing IGS blockade during pregnancy

Pregnancy is an enormous change for the entire body. Especially the lower spine, more precisely the lumbar spine, is strained by the weight gain, since this area has to carry the most load. Consequently, the enormous load can result in muscular tension and poor posture with a blockage of the ISG.

In addition, pregnancy leads to a changed hormone balance. In this context, the so-called relaxin hormone is released in increased amounts in order to loosen the ligaments in the pelvic area to facilitate the birth process. However, this is accompanied by a loss of stability in the pelvic and ISG area.

The body reacts with tension and poor posture, so that the ISG joint, which is located close to the pelvis, is often blocked. For these reasons, therapy to resolve an ISG blockage during pregnancy is very crucial. As the intake of medication is very limited, manual therapy approaches are leading the way.

Therefore, exercises according to the Dornmethod are possible during pregnancy to solve an ISG blockage. The assumption that pregnancy is a contraindication for many exercises is wrong. In the majority of cases, exercises according to Dorn can be helpful to solve an ISG blockage during pregnancy and lead to a quick relief of symptoms.

However, it is important that the therapists always keep the consent of the pregnant woman, because a certain residual risk for possible complications due to the mechanics during the exercises remains. Alternative therapy approaches, which should not necessarily be used during pregnancy, are acupuncture or shock wave therapy. However, there are sufficient mechanical and non-invasive exercises to remove blockages during pregnancy.

All exercises can be performed by pregnant women just as safely as by other patients with ISG blockage. Only the intensity and duration of the therapy should be reduced if necessary and kept as gentle as possible. The exercises are not only helpful during pregnancy, but can also be used for prophylaxis and stabilization of the musculature. In addition to the exercises, heat treatment to dissolve the ISG blockade is also a therapeutic option. The heat can loosen the tense muscles and thus alleviate the symptoms in a pleasant way.
