What home remedies are available for back pain?
Back pain can also be effectively relieved by home remedies without having to resort directly to painkillers. This includes warm baths, targeted massages and also herbal oils. The massages can help to relax cramped muscles.
Herbal oils, especially lavender and peppermint oil, also serve to relax the muscles. In order to prevent possible back pain, a back-friendly workplace, knowledge about correct bending and lifting as well as specific relaxation techniques are also important. Special exercises against back pain can be worked out together with a physiotherapist, for example. The main aim is to strengthen the back muscles and thus prevent back pain later on. Yoga or mediation is also counted among the preventive back training.
Heat treatment of back pain
Back pain is often caused by muscle tension. If the musculature is overstimulated, this leads to cramps, which reduces the blood circulation. The muscle is poorly supplied with oxygen, which causes simple metabolic mechanisms within the muscles to suffer – tensions develop which eventually end in pain.
In order to relieve these tensions, we try to increase the blood circulation in the muscles and to ease the cramps. Heat is an effective remedy for this. The heat increases the blood circulation and thus improves the oxygen supply to the muscles.
The cramped and possibly damaged muscle can relax and regenerate if necessary. This heat treatment can be achieved in different ways. On the one hand, heat can be generated by heat creams, e.g. Voltaren or Diclo pain gel.Alternatively, hot-water bottles, heating pads or hot-water belts can lead to an improvement in symptoms.
Back pain during pregnancy
Back pain during pregnancy is not uncommon. Far more than half suffer from considerable pain during pregnancy. However, there are a number of options and exercises to prevent it from becoming chronic beyond pregnancy and to relieve the everyday discomfort.
Due to the weight of themselves and that of the baby, overstretching of ligaments in the back area and fatigue of the musculature occurs. The body is not used to such a state of emergency. Therefore it is important to keep fit effectively before the beginning of the pregnancy and especially to strengthen the back muscles.
Even during pregnancy, light exercises can be performed to strengthen the back muscles. If back pain does occur after all, massages or warmth are recommended. Besides these usual tips, there are so-called protective belts especially for pregnancy, which can partially relieve the abdominal and back muscles from the baby’s weight.
Also aqua courses are considered very helpful and a gentle way to strengthen the back muscles. However, if the pain does not get better despite all measures, a specialist should be consulted. In special cases physiotherapy or massage can be prescribed.
