What is the process of the U7?
The U7 runs similar to all other U examinations. You and your child will be invited to an examination room and then the doctor will first physically examine your child and then assess its developmental status. The focus of this early detection examination is on the child’s social and mental development.
Therefore, the doctor will also ask you many questions, especially concerning the behavior of your child in everyday life. Of course, the doctor will also look at your child himself, talk to him or give him small tasks. An important second part of the U7 examination is the consultation of the parents by the doctor.
Your child is now at an age where he or she is becoming increasingly mobile and trying things out. It is important to be aware of potential dangers. Surely your doctor will be able to give you tips on accident prevention.
Your child’s molars are probably already slowly coming to the surface. Parents can also get valuable advice on dental care for children at U7. If they have questions about their child’s development or how they can best support it, they are not afraid to ask them! This is exactly what the examination appointment is designed for.
Does my child have to go to U7?
It is not compulsory to go with your child to the U7 examination. However, it is highly recommended in the interest of your child’s health. In some federal states, the health or youth welfare office will contact you if you do not take your child to the U examinations.
What happens if I take my child to the U7?
If you go to U7 with your child, all the data examined (e.g. head circumference, body weight and height) are entered in the Yellow U-booklet. The vaccinations are also noted in the vaccination certificate. You will receive important information on how you can support and encourage your child in the coming stages of development. You can also make sure that your child has grown up normally and healthily so far, or that your child will be helped as early as possible if problems arise.
