Which home remedies can help me?

There are many different home remedies that can be used for coughs and chesty coughs. Inhaling hot water has a quick soothing effect as it moistens the respiratory tract and soothes irritated dry mucous membranes. An inhaler can be purchased from a pharmacy for this purpose.

In addition, the hot water can be provided with sage or chamomile. These agents are often used, for example, to treat a cold. If you do not want to buy an inhaler, you can alternatively use a cooking pot and put a towel over your head.

However, care should be taken here because of the risk of scalding. Another well-tried household remedy against coughing is the potato wrap. For this, a few potatoes are boiled until soft and then cooled down a little so that they have a pleasant temperature.

Now they are mashed and wrapped in a cotton or tea towel. The compress can be placed on the chest until the heat has disappeared. Potatoes are very well suited for this, as they are able to store heat over a long period of time and can thus calm irritated respiratory tracts.

For this reason, potato wraps are also used, for example, for earaches. You can find more household remedies in the article “Household remedies for chest/cough“.
