Salicis cortex, willow bark. Willow bark consists of the whole or cut dried bark of young twigs or whole dried pieces of young twigs of the current year of various species of the genus , including L., Vill. and L. (PhEur). PhEur requires a minimum content of salicyl alcohol derivatives.

Ingredients

  • Salicyl alcohol derivatives, so-called “salicylates”, e.g. salicin, salicortin.
  • Tannins

Effects

Similar to acetylsalicylic acid:

  • Analgesic
  • Antipyretic
  • Anti-inflammatory

  • Febrile infections, colds
  • Headache
  • Rheumatic complaints

Dosage

As a decoction, in finished medicinal products.

Adverse effects

The typical adverse effects of salicylates need not be expected.
