Interaction with other drugs
For the application of Vividrin® acute nasal spray no interactions are known so far. Azelastine, which is also available in tablet form, can enhance the effects of other antihistamines, sleeping pills or opioid painkillers. In general, the consumption of alcohol should be avoided when using medication, as this can also increase the effect.
Contraindications – When should Vividrin® Acute Nasal Spray not be given?
Vividrin® acute nasal spray must not be used if the use of the nasal spray causes hypersensitivity to the active ingredient azelastine and aggravates the allergic symptoms. It is also not recommended for children under 6 years of age.
Dosage
The manufacturer’s recommended amount of Vividrin® Acute Nasal Spray corresponds to an application of 2x daily one spray per nostril. This corresponds approximately to the amount of 0.56 mg azelastine hydrochloride per day. Even in the case of severe local overdosage, no symptoms of poisoning are to be expected due to the small amount of active ingredient. As Vividrin® acute nasal spray is intended for long-term treatment, it should be used regularly.

The price of Vividrin® acute nasal spray is on average between 5 – 8 € for a package size of 5 mL.
Alternatives to Vividrin® acute nasal spray
A very good alternative is the Allergodil® acute nasal spray, which also uses azelastine as the active ingredient. Scientists recommend nasal sprays containing the active ingredients azelastine and levocabastine for a congested nose. In patients with excellent allergic symptoms in the eyes, the active ingredients azelastine, levocabastine or ketotifen are advised.
Can I take it during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
So far it is not known whether azelastine can harm the unborn child. Therefore, pregnant women should not use the active substance azelastine as a nasal spray or as Vividrin® acute eye drops in the first trimester. For use after the first three months a doctor should be consulted first. Since small amounts of azelastine are absorbed into breast milk, the use of Vividrin Acute Nasal Spray is not recommended during the breastfeeding period. +
Effectiveness of the pill
General antihistamines and anti-allergics, including the active ingredient of Vividrin acute nasal spray, do not reduce the effect of the pill. There are no known interactions between azelastine and the contraceptive pill.
