Alcohol consumption – is it compatible with taking Cerazette?

In principle, the contraceptive effect of the active ingredient contained in Cerazette® is not affected by the occasional consumption of alcohol. There is also no reason to fear an increased organ-damaging effect if the pill and alcohol are absorbed by the body at the same time. Under certain circumstances, however, the protection against pregnancy can be reduced by taking Cerazette® while drinking alcohol. If excessive alcohol consumption leads to vomiting before the medication has passed through the stomach, in the worst case this can lead to an unwanted pregnancy after sexual intercourse.

Alternatives to Cerazette

There are many different alternatives to Cerazette®. On the one hand there are other pills that also contain only a progestin as the active ingredient. Some of the available preparations differ in the type and exact effect of the hormone.

Another large group of alternative contraceptives are the classic birth control pills, which contain a combination of a progestin and estrogen as the active ingredient. If you do not want to take a pill, there are other ways of contraception through the action of hormones. Firstly, there are vaginal rings which are inserted into the vagina and release the hormones into the bloodstream.

On the other hand there is the three-month injection. Here a hormone depot is injected under the skin every three months, which is gradually absorbed by the body. There are also several alternatives to Cerazette® which do not require the action of hormones.

The safest is the use of condoms. Alternative forms of contraception, such as the method based on measuring body temperature or after the menstrual cycle, offer less protection against unwanted pregnancy. Taking Cerazette after childbirth / while breastfeeding

Cerazette® can be taken after birth and while breastfeeding. The formation and quality of breast milk are not affected by the medication. Although even small amounts of the active ingredient pass into breast milk, there are no health risks for the baby.

Observations and studies have shown that there is no effect on the growth and development of the child if the mother takes Cerazette® while breastfeeding. Nevertheless, you should consult your gynaecologist or family doctor if you wish to take Cerazette® again immediately after the birth. The appropriate time to start using Cerazette® is between the 21st and 28th day after birth.

If you do not want to start taking Cerazette® until later, you should also use condoms for the first seven days. It must also be ensured that the woman is not pregnant again. During the breastfeeding period, however, a new pregnancy is usually prevented, as the hormone prolactin released prevents the egg cells from maturing.
