Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: Diagnostic Tests

Mandatory medical device diagnostics.

  • Abdominal ultrasonography (ultrasound examination of the abdominal organs) – for basic diagnosis.
  • X-ray of the thorax (X-ray thorax/chest), in two planes – as basic diagnostics.
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG; recording of the electrical activity of the heart muscle), echocardiography (echo; cardiac ultrasound) – as basic cardiological diagnostics.
  • Computed tomography (CT; sectional imaging method (X-ray images from different directions with computer-based evaluation)) of the abdomen/thorax (abdominal CT/thoracic CT) – if sonography/X-ray require further examinations.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI; computer-assisted cross-sectional imaging method (using magnetic fields, i.e., without X-rays) of the abdomen/thorax (abdominal MRI/thoracic MRI) – if sonography/X-ray require further examinations.

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the history, physical examination, laboratory diagnostics and obligatory medical device diagnostics – for differential diagnostic clarification.

  • Encephalogram (EEG; recording of the electrical activity of the brain) – if CNS (central nervous system) involvement is suspected.
  • Pleural sonography (ultrasound examination of the pleura (pleura) and pleural space) – to exclude pleural effusions.
