Qigong: Beneficial Exercises for Body and Mind

Qigong, like acupuncture, belongs to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Both methods work with the flow of energy in the meridians and aim to harmonize the body’s energies. The “Qi” plays a central role in the Qigong exercises. “Qi” is a universal life energy, a force that is present in nature as well as in our body and that we can use positively for ourselves. Body movements, the effects of which we can easily understand, but also more silent exercises, which require sensitivity and patience to learn, are included in Qigong.

Qigong: health exercises from the monasteries of China.

Many of the health exercises, whose origins lie in Daoism and Buddhism, were kept secret for a long time. They were practiced only in monasteries.

Today, every morning in China, you can see many people in the green areas starting the day with Qigong exercises to keep themselves fit for health. Although absorbing and directing “Qi” is still somewhat foreign to Europeans, this technique is finding more and more friends here as well because of its positive, health benefits.

Health exercises

Qigong has an appeal to all those who strive to become more balanced and get through the day better. Qigong makes it possible to specifically gather strength and activate energies.

Many of the simple exercises are suitable for general prevention. Others address specific areas of the body. Overstrained neck, shoulder and back areas can be loosened in this way. The Chinese technique of Qigong is therefore also helpful for tense desk workers and stress-ridden people.

Qigong in Germany

In Germany, Qigong is mainly offered in group courses. During the exercises, one learns to control movement and breathing, to train attention and to pay attention to posture. The holistic healing method not only strengthens the muscles and promotes mobility, it also has a positive effect on the heart and circulation. Qigong also calms the nerves and helps to relax. Over time, this can increase awareness and personal responsibility.

Can also be used therapeutically

Qigong forms can also be used to accompany therapy. Organ functions are to be strengthened or energy blockages are to be reduced. Qigong can also be helpful for the following chronic diseases:

  • Migraine
  • Back pain
  • Allergies
  • Asthma

In these cases, one-on-one work with qualified teachers is a good option. In general, qigong is not physically demanding and so suitable for all ages. Every day for about 15 minutes to complete some of the beneficial exercises can therefore gently support health.
