Am I allowed to do sports after a tattoo has been pierced?
When re-piercing a tattoo, the waiting time until you can start playing sports again is somewhat shorter. The re-piercing of a tattoo is usually not as complicated and time-consuming as the pricking of a new tattoo. Nevertheless, the skin is injured here as well.
Therefore you should not abstain from a sport break to let the tattoo heal. The advice of the tattoo artist should always be the binding statement. Who is uncertain, can fall back on the advice of his dermatologist. In addition, the duration of the break also depends on the size and the place of the tattoo, because every part of the body is stressed differently.
When will you be allowed to do sports again?
The point in time when after the stinging of a tattoo again with the sport may be started, depends to a large extent on the type of sport you practice. The quickest way is to go back to the gym to train, because physical stress can not harm the tattoo itself. Also the sweat is not bad for the tattoo.
You can buy an antibacterial cream in the pharmacy and apply it to the tattoo to avoid infections and inflammations. After two to three days after the sting you can start training in the gym again with restrictions. However, you should always listen to and follow the advice of your tattooist.
For sports where physical contact is unavoidable you have to pause a little longer. In sports such as football, handball or martial arts, the skin can be injured by physical contact, dirt and bacteria can get into the wound, which can cause an inflammation. Athletes who practice contact sports should rather abstain from sports for a few days to a week after getting a tattoo.
Exact information about the length and type of break can be obtained again from the tattoo artist or the dermatologist. Sports with water contact, sauna and sun also have certain effects on a freshly tattooed tattoo. If you do water sports or like to go to the sauna, you should wait about six weeks until the skin under the tattoo is completely healed.
Competitive athletes can train in the water again earlier, but should use a water-repellent foil, and/or rub their skin with a protective cream. Especially the chlorine can be problematic and cause the colours in the tattoo to fade.
