Apples against diarrhoea
The apple is considered an extremely effective household remedy against diarrhoea. The pectin contained in the apple forms a protective film over the intestinal mucosa after absorption and thus prevents bacterial toxins from causing damage in the intestine.Especially in grated form and lukewarm apple is often used against diarrhoea. However, only a small amount should be eaten in many portions spread over the day.
Grated apple is also suitable for children as a household remedy against diarrhoea. There are many different causes of diarrhoea, most of which can be treated quite well with home remedies. If they do not have any effect, however, it is important to consult a doctor in good time, as this is an indication that the diarrhoea is caused by a more serious disease, such as a chronic inflammatory bowel disease like Crohn’s disease.
One of the most important measures for patients with diarrhea is to drink a lot, since the body loses a lot of fluid through the thin, increased bowel movements. Particularly effective are drinks containing both salts (to give the body back the necessary electrolytes) and sugar to increase the reabsorption of water in the kidneys. Different types of tea also have a positive effect on diarrhoea.
Often blackberry leaves, raspberries (important: do not eat the fresh fruits, these have a rather beneficial effect on diarrhea) and chamomile are used as a basis for teas, sometimes also combinations of these. Drinks such as milk, alcohol and caffeinated drinks such as coffee should be avoided. Home remedies for diarrhoea are often used, such as the so-called healing clay.
This is a special sand that can be taken dissolved in tea or pure, whereby the dry form has a more intensive effect. Healing earth is available in pharmacies. The same applies to charcoal tablets.
These can bind toxins and strengthen the bowel movement. In addition, carrots and apples are good household remedies against diarrhoea. Both contain the swelling agent pectin in quite high concentration, by which the toxins of many diarrhoea causing bacteria can be bound and thus rendered harmless.
Ideally 2 to 3 apples should be eaten daily, preferably raw, washed and grated. Carrots, on the other hand, are best eaten as soup, as they are most easily digestible. Heat is also helpful for diarrhoea.
Diarrhoea is often accompanied by stomach cramps, which can be reduced in intensity by locally applied heat. A hot-water bottle or damp cloths can be used for warming, and potatoes also act very well as a source of warmth. For this purpose, jacket potatoes must be mashed and filled into a cloth, which is then placed on the stomach. With both methods you have to be careful, because there is a danger of burns.
