Epididymis: Prevention

In most cases, epididymitis runs smoothly and without permanent damage. In order to prevent the inflammation from spreading to the testicles or becoming chronic, those affected should consult a doctor immediately at the first appearance of symptoms and consistently follow the prescribed therapy. Even “harmless” urinary tract infections should be taken seriously and always cured well so that they do not spread to the epididymis.

By taking simple precautions during sexual intercourse – by wearing condoms – you can avoid sexually transmitted infections that can cause epididymitis. Because strong mechanical influences also promote epididymitis, you should wear a jockstrap when playing “high-risk” sports such as ice hockey.
