Associated symptoms

In addition to the skin symptoms, psoriasis can cause severe itching. Psoriasis can also be accompanied by joint involvement. The initial manifestation of psoriasis can therefore also take the form of joint problems.

These joint complaints occur mainly in the base and middle joints of the fingers. This often involves swelling and pain in the affected joint. Typically, the symptoms first appear in young adulthood after puberty (20 to 30 years of age).

The treatment of psoriasis on the face

When psoriasis first manifests itself, a doctor should be consulted to determine the cause. Since the psychological strain is very high when the face is affected, a doctor should always be consulted for therapy of known psoriasis. In addition to locally effective medication, systemic medication can also be administered if necessary.

In order to prevent severe dandruff formation with hyperkeratosis, treatment with an ointment should also be carried out in symptom-free intervals. In acute phases, local creams should be used to remove the plaques from the inflamed skin. Creams containing salicylic acid or uric acid are very suitable for this purpose.

Furthermore, there are glucocorticoids (e.g. cortisone) which can be applied to the skin to alleviate the acute flare-up. However, the use of glucocorticoids on the face is not recommended. Outside the acute phase, the skin should be treated with skin care creams.

Psoriasis is a serious disease. It affects the whole organism, even if it only manifests itself apparently on the skin. As it is a chronic disease, a doctor should always be consulted if symptoms occur.

In addition to inflammation of the skin and joints, inflammation of the vessels and other organs can also occur. Here, psoriasis increases the risk of heart attack. Because of the risks mentioned, household remedies should only be used after consultation with a doctor.

Duration of the disease

Ptoriosis is a chronic disease which is not curable. In the course of the disease, different activity levels are observed, which leads to relapses and symptom-free intervals. When a thrust occurs, the duration depends on its strength. Therefore, the duration of such an episode can range from days to weeks.

Psoriasis of the face in a baby or infant is extremely rare. However, if an outbreak of the disease does occur at this age, a visit to the pediatrician is necessary. The paediatrician can decide which therapy is appropriate and least harmful for the child.

In general, it should be tried to treat the child with local medication. In the case of systemic administration, the dosage should always be adjusted and the therapy should be monitored at regular intervals. The administration of cortisone should only be successful if it is necessary. However, since psoriasis is a disease that affects the entire body, it is appropriate to accept the side effects of cortisone for some symptoms.
