Body Lice Infestation (Pediculosis Corporis): Complications

The following are the most important diseases or complications that may be contributed to by pediculosis corporis (clothes louse infestation):

Blood, blood-forming organs – Immune system (D50-D90).

Infectious and parasitic diseases (A00-B99).

  • (Louse) typhus exanthemicus – infectious disease caused by the bacterium Rickettsia prowazekii and transmitted by the clothes louse.
  • Lice fever – infectious disease caused by the bacterium Borrelia recurrentis and transmitted the clothes louse.
  • Plague (possible, i.e. not to be excluded!)
  • Wolhynia fever (five-day fever, trench fever) – infectious disease caused by the bacterium Bartonella quintana and transmitted the clothes louse.
  • Superinfection of scratch wounds, especially on the back of the head, neck and behind the ears.
