The breathing process is usually a process that is performed without much thought. Only when a problem occurs do we begin to breathe more consciously. This is not always beneficial.
A large number of different breathing exercises can help to control breathing, so that the patient feels a significant improvement. The correct performance of the exercises requires a certain amount of training, but can then be used by the patients in a targeted manner. In this way difficult situations can be mastered independently.
Breathing techniques at birth
Especially during the birth process, an efficiently applied breathing technique can help to relieve the pain caused by labor and improve the oxygen supply to the unborn child. Therefore, in many birth preparation courses, exercises and breathing techniques are specifically trained. These should help the expectant mother to be as relaxed as possible during the birth and give her the feeling that she is in control of the situation at all times.
In general, during the birth phase, the aim is to breathe in calmly and in a controlled manner through the nose and exhale through a loosely open mouth. The patient’s own breathing rhythm should always be maintained and the air should only be held during the contractions. Various exercises are described below as examples: 1) Train Exercise This exercise helps to suppress the urge to press.
When breathing out, the user makes a sound similar to a steam lock (ch ch ch ch) 2.) Hechel Exercise This breathing technique reduces the pressure just before the baby’s head is born, because the expectant mother should not press anymore. Breathing is therefore done like a panting dog.
3.) Balloon exercise This exercise improves the oxygen supply to the unborn child. After each contraction, breathe deeply into the abdomen as if a balloon were to be inflated.
Breathing exercises during Yoga
For experts in the field of yoga, the term pranayama refers to the bringing together of body and mind through certain breathing exercises. They help to relax the body and find its inner balance. In the following some exercises are described.
1.) The bee Here, the bee is inhaled with closed mouth, imitating a snoring sound. Afterwards a buzzing sound is exhaled.
2.) Cooling Breathing Roll your tongue into a kind of straw and stick it out. Then breathe out through the “straw” ́ ́ein and through your nose.
3.) Breathe in and out through the nose and try to produce a rustling, snoring sound. 4.) Bellows Breathing For this exercise, breathe through the nose and blow up your belly in rhythm with your breathing and then pull it in again.
