There are no drugs containing bromperidol on the market in many countries.

Structure and properties

Bromperidol (C₂₁H₂₃BrFNO₂, M_r = 420.3 g/mol) exists as a white powder that is practically insoluble in water. It is identical to haloperidol but is brominated instead of chlorinated. Bromperidol is a butyrphenone derivative. Bromperidol decanoate (depot injection) is also used.

Effects

Bromperidol (ATC N05AD06) has antipsychotic properties. The effects are due in part to antagonism at dopamine receptors in the central nervous system.

For the treatment of schizophrenia.
