Brucellosis: Medical History

The medical history (history of the patient) represents an important component in the diagnosis of brucellosis.

Family history

  • What is the general health status of your relatives?

Social history

  • What is your profession? (professions at risk are: farmers, veterinarians, milkers, butchers; hunters).
  • Do you have contact with cattle, goats, sheep and pigs (including wild boar)?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • What symptoms have you noticed?
  • How long has this symptomatology been present?
  • Do you have a fever? If so, how high is the fever? Does the temperature fluctuate (“undulating fever”)* ?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Have you lost body weight unintentionally in the recent past? If so, how much in what time?

Self history including medication history.
